RIM, after launching the BlackBerry Curve 8520 in U.S. and Canada, has bought the device into India. Bolstering the Curve line-up, The 8520 is an affordable, feature packed alternative to the more expensive BlackBerry Curve 8900 that was launched not long ago.
The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is the first device to sport the new “innovative” (as RIM puts it!) touch-sensitive trackpad. Also new is the addition of a dedicated multimedia key. In fact, this phone might just go down in to the annals of history as the first device where RIM’s transition from being a purely business oriented phone maker to more of a mass market player has come to light. Its multimedia intentions are evident from the presence of a 3.5mm jack and support for iTunes and Windows MediaPlayer.
RIM has tied up with Airtel to offer the Curve in India. There is a new prepaid BlackBerry service plan from Airtel, for a monthly rate of Rs. 299. The device is also targeted at a virtually untapped segment of young professionals and retail consumers who have been inching to get their hands on to a BlackBerry device but were intimidated my the pricing of the earlier models.
As for the features, the 8520 comes with a standard full-QWERTY and Wi-Fi support. It is quite light weight as well, tipping the scales at just 106 grams. The phone comes with 256MB Flash memory and a sports a decent 512Mhz CPU. It supports memory expansion hot swappable microSD/SDHC cards and supports cards of up to 16 GB. The screen is a 2.4 inch one with 65k colors, which certainly is a step backwards with most of its contemporaries sporting better screens. There is nothing much to talk on the camera front. The 8520 comes with a decent 2 megapixel camera with support for video recording. The battery is a decent 1150 mAhr one good for up to 4.5 hours of talk time and 17 days of standby time. Airtel customers can sms ‘BB’ to 543210 to register to purchase the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and to get more information about the plans offered with the smartphone.
The BlackBerry Curve 8520 will be available nationally from Airtel’s authorised outlets through Bharti Teletech across India from Aug. 7. It is priced at Rs.15,990, which, for a new BlackBerry, is affordable!

Remember the Nokia 6208 Classic? The phone was first seen making an entry in to the Chinese markets a few months ago.

Back then though, it was hailed to be a China specific phone and was soon forgotten. The phone has suddenly made a comeback with Nokia announcing its launch here in India. The specialty about this one is that this happens to be the first Series 40 device in India to sport touch input.

The phone sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a 3.2-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 8x digital zoom, multimedia player, FM Radio and handwriting recognition support. It comes with 64MB of internal memory, which can of course be expanded upto 8GB with microSD cards. There is a 3.5mm jack for music buffs on the move. There is no Wi-Fi or 3G, however, it supports EDGE.

Design wise, this might not appeal to everyone with its rather weird looking rear. Full specifications and details of the device can be accessed here. The phone will be priced at Rs. 13,259 and will soon be at a Nokia dealer near you.

CENTURION: A scoreboard error on the giant screen here at the ground made Man of the Match Suresh Raina miss a well-deserved century but his power-packed 98 undersurcsk pressure propelled Team Chennai to a 38-run win victory over defending champions Team Jaipur on Thursday. As soon as Raina reached 98 with a boundary off Munaf Patel, the scoreboard flashed 100 confusing the batsman into starting off with premature celebrations. He was out the very next ball and walked back thinking he had scored a century! His knock, though, helped MS Dhoni’s team overcome the jitters to post a competitive 164/5 off their 20 overs. Raina’s was the standout performance in a very average Chennai show with the bat the next highest individual score was Badrinath’s 29 The total proved too much for Team Jaipur to overhaul. Apart from Yusuf Pathan’s heroics, Shane Warne’s team has been found struggling with the bat, and the cheap dismissals of Graeme Smith and No.3 batsman Swapnil Asnodkar reduced them to 29/2 in the sixth over. They never recovered from there and folded for 126 in 19.3 overs. Rookie pacer Kamran Khan pulled a hamstring and was absent hurt. Earlier, Warne’s team started off well, getting Matthew Hayden, Parthiv Patel and Jacob Oram cheaply. Chennai could’ve perished under pressure in between these dismissals if not for Raina. The southpaw took the battle back to the opposition. He walked in at No. 3, stood there for a while gauging the conditions and by the time he walked out, two short of what would have been a spectacular hundred, he had changed the entire course of the match.
